Spar Vacancies – Purchasing Manager

SPAR is seeking a Purchasing Manager to join its team. This role is responsible for driving distribution center (DC) sales, increasing retail loyalty, achieving gross profit (GP) targets, and expanding market share through strategic stock planning and purchasing that aligns with retailer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage promotions planning to drive sales and retailer engagement
  • Achieve sales and gross profit targets
  • Ensure competitive product pricing while maintaining budgeted retail margins
  • Maintain and improve service levels to retailers
  • Develop internal controls to monitor Category Managers’ key performance areas
  • Drive product development and innovation
  • Oversee warehouse stock levels in line with budget expectations
  • Manage supplier performance in terms of pricing, product quality, and service levels
  • Negotiate trading terms and supplier agreements
  • Control department administration and expenses
  • Provide leadership to the Marketing team and offer category guidance to SPAR Retail Members
  • Perform additional ad hoc tasks and duties as required

Requirements

  • 5+ years of management experience in an FMCG environment
  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing or Advertising
  • Proven ability to develop suppliers from grassroots level to SPAR compliance
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration across the supply chain
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Strategic decision-making and planning skills
  • Ability to trade aggressively and develop marketing and promotional strategies
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills
  • Effective negotiation, communication, and entrepreneurial abilities
  • A team player with a results-driven mindset
