Underwriting Executive – Financial Services Industry
HR Genie is seeking an experienced Underwriting Executive for a leading client in the financial services sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting management, risk assessment, and team leadership within the insurance industry.
Formal Education:
- Completion of an NQF Level 5 qualification.
- Successful completion of the RE 5 Examination Level 1.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry.
- At least 3 years in an underwriting management role.
- Proven people management skills.
- Experience in managing underwriter performance, growth, and sustainability.
- Managerial experience in short-term insurance.
- Strong negotiation abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Processes:
- Provide high-level operational oversight and complex risk management.
- Offer strategic guidance aligned with corporate goals.
- Manage complex risk placement with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate and report unit performance to the COO, setting achievable targets.
- Ensure compliance and optimize processes for service quality.
- Drive strategic improvements in underwriting practices.
- Uphold quality standards to enhance client satisfaction and cost efficiency.
People:
- Foster a positive work environment and support professional growth.
- Maintain high staff morale and strong relationships.
- Lead, motivate, and develop underwriters.
- Address performance issues and escalate unresolved matters to the COO.
Client Service Excellence:
- Support sales teams in acquiring and retaining profitable business.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints promptly.
- Implement efficient work routines aligned with operational plans.
- Manage policy profitability and exposure levels.
Technology:
- Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Deliver performance reports and improvement recommendations.
- Identify enhancements for underwriting processes.
