Sanlam Vacancies – Senior Risk Manager

What Will You Do?

As a Senior Risk Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Charter. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the team in embedding a comprehensive risk management process to identify, mitigate, monitor, report, and escalate key strategic and operational risks within the Board’s risk appetite.
  • Supporting the Head of ERM in monitoring the Group’s risk profile, ensuring key risks are managed, actions are taken, and controls are implemented.
  • Coordinating and aggregating key risks within the Santam Group for Risk Committee reporting, providing a summary and overview of Santam’s key risks.
  • Tracking the implementation of the ERM plan and escalating issues related to timing or focus with the Head of ERM.
  • Gaining a deep understanding of the external and internal business environment, including strategic and operational goals, to evaluate and identify new and emerging risks.
  • Driving the analysis of operational events throughout the Group and linking these to the overall risk profile per SBU and for the Group.
  • Validating risk data in CURA to ensure accurate capture of risks and incidents, and escalating issues to the Head of ERM.
  • Scanning the external environment for threats and opportunities affecting the Santam group risk profile.
  • Coordinating regulatory submissions and managing all governance documents (policies, charters, frameworks), including annual reviews and preparation for board approval.

Qualification and Experience

  • Business-related degree.
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience, including management skills.

  • Highly self-motivated and proactive.
  • Ability to learn quickly and think independently.
  • Knowledge of operational loss management, analytics, reporting, internal control, and performing under pressure.
