Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Lead – MEA to drive our data centre business across key markets, including KSA, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and South Africa. This role combines technical leadership (70%) with business growth (30%) and is based in South Africa, with travel required across the Middle East and occasionally Europe.

As Project- and Design Manager, you will oversee hyperscale data centre projects, from site due diligence and master planning to detailed design, construction documentation, and administration. You will lead multidisciplinary technical teams, engage with clients, and expand AECOM’s data centre practice in MEA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end data centre design projects, ensuring quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
  • Develop technical and financial proposals for data centre projects.
  • Oversee peer reviews, quality checks, and localization processes.
  • Lead project teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Proactively manage scope changes and resolve design challenges.
  • Represent AECOM in client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Expand AECOM’s MEA data centre market strategy, leveraging global capabilities and teams.
  • Strengthen relationships with senior leaders in global data centre firms.
  • Collaborate with regional and global leaders to optimize resource sharing.
  • Drive growth in client accounts through strategic engagement.
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations and interviews.
  • Track and report on KPIs, including bookings, revenue, and margins.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in the built environment, with a focus on data centres.
  • Professional registration (e.g., ECSA) is advantageous.
  • Strong technical expertise in hyperscale data centre design (architecture, MEP, structural, etc.).
  • Proven leadership in client management and business development.
