Tyre & Mechanical Assistant
Purpose of the Job
The Tyre & Mechanical Assistant supports all mechanical repairs, vehicle services, and tyre maintenance. This role involves conducting tyre surveys, attending roadside breakdowns, and ensuring vehicles are washed and cleaned before leaving the depot.
Key Responsibilities
General Tyre Duties
- Strip and fit tyres, ensuring correct tyre pressures
- Conduct tyre surveys and replace worn or damaged tyres
- Complete tyre change slips and ensure wheel nuts are properly torqued
- Maintain tyre stock and workshop tools in a clean and organised manner
- Attend to mechanical and tyre breakdowns at the depot or on-site
General Workshop Assistance Duties
- Assist with mechanical repairs, servicing, and maintenance
- Support all workshop-related functions and tasks as required
- Complete job card service schedules and parts listings accurately
- Help control spare parts and tyre stock
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop, parts store, tyre bay, and washbay
- Support relevant operational functions as needed
Washbay Duties
- Ensure all vehicles are washed and cleaned to standard
- Adhere to the company dress code and SOPs
- Maintain daily housekeeping and cleanliness
- Follow Health and Safety standards at all times
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Previous mechanical and tyre experience
Skills Required
- Apply basic Health and Safety procedures under supervision
- Identify hazards and address them with guidance
- Ability to work effectively in a hands-on, operational environment
