An established and reputable insurance company is seeking a skilled Commercial Underwriter to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will assess and manage complex commercial risks, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines while fostering strong broker relationships to drive business growth.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and underwrite new and existing commercial insurance policies within delegated authority levels.
- Implement and manage binder agreements in line with regulatory requirements.
- Assess risk profiles, claims history, and loss ratios to determine appropriate terms, premiums, and coverage.
- Prepare and present quotes, renewal terms, and alternative solutions to brokers.
- Monitor and optimize portfolio performance to ensure profitability and growth.
- Maintain strong broker relationships through prompt, professional communication.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, legal standards, and industry best practices.
- Utilize Cardinal 360 for underwriting administration and portfolio tracking.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and business expansion.
- Contribute to process improvements and underwriting strategy enhancements.
Requirements
- Regulatory Examination 5 (RE5) certification – Essential.
- NQF Level 5 qualification in Short-Term Insurance – Essential.
- Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting experience, including complex risks and large accounts.
- Binder experience – Essential.
- Proficiency in Cardinal 360 – Essential.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial insurance products and policy wording.
- Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain broker relationships.
