Dischem Vacancies – Dispensary Support
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a motivated individual to join our team at the Cape Road store as Dispensary Support. The primary role of the Dispensary Support staff is to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course, gaining valuable experience in the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing processes. This Fixed Term position offers an excellent opportunity to gain on-the-job learning and a pathway to permanent employment once you are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant.
Minimum Requirements:
- Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science
- Average of 50% in overall academic performance
Job Responsibilities:
- Complete the proficiency test required for registration with SAPC as a learner basic assistant.
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Help with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to a formula and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Unpack and merchandise stock, maintaining a clean and organized dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Accurately interpret scripts, ensuring legal compliance and professional conduct.
- Assist with the picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication while being aware of common dosages and drug interactions.
- Ensure that all medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist and signed by them.
- Manage stock control, including the cleanliness and organization of shelves, and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and scheduled follow-up appointments.
- Assist with call center scripts, customer service telephone calls, and providing health information.
- Assist with the scheme authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Report low or out-of-stock levels to the Dispensary Manager.
- Receive dispensary stock following the company’s SOPs.
Competencies and Skills:
- Essential:
- Proficiency in English and a second language (reading, writing, speaking)
- Strong time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and handle pressure
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work as part of a team, demonstrate accountability, and maintain professional conduct
- Advantageous:
- Retail FMCG experience, especially with Dis-Chem front shop
- Knowledge of drug and family planning, complementary medicine
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and e-scripting
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Successful completion of a proficiency test to register with SAPC
- South African citizenship
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE)
