About the Role
Dischem is offering an opportunity for a Dispensary Support team member to join the Okavango store. This role is designed for learners who will complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. The programme provides practical workplace learning while building knowledge of pharmaceutical practices, dispensing procedures, and healthcare standards.

Successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term basis as Dispensary Support while completing the required training and registration process with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Permanent employment may be considered once the learner qualifies and registers as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • Pure Mathematics with at least 50%
  • Life Science and/or Physical Science with an average of at least 50%

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete the required proficiency assessment to apply for registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a learner basic pharmacist assistant
  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
  • Support the compounding, preparation, or manipulation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures
  • Assist with unpacking stock, merchandising shelves, and maintaining the cleanliness of the dispensary and OTC areas
  • Carry out duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager
  • Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately while maintaining professionalism and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Support accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication while understanding common dosages and drug interactions
  • Ensure all medication is verified and signed off by a pharmacist for accuracy
  • Assist in stock control including shelf organisation, cleanliness, and monitoring medicine expiry dates for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 substances
  • Follow up with patients regarding prescription tracking and appointments as required
  • Assist with call centre prescription services and patient telephone queries
  • Provide health-related information to patients to support wellness and medication understanding
  • Support scheme authorisations for chronic medication, HIV and AIDS treatment, and oncology prescriptions
  • Report low or out-of-stock items and stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager
  • Receive and manage dispensary stock according to company standard operating procedures

Advantageous

  • Experience in Retail FMCG or Dischem front shop with a strong performance record
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning products and complementary medicine
  • Ability to speak a third language
  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems

Special Conditions of Employment
