Job Description
The Cashier is responsible for the accurate processing of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation to ensure a positive customer experience. The role ensures that no goods pass through the POS without correct payment being received.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language

  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately

  • Strong administrative skills

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • Ability to work under pressure

Key Performance Areas

Cash Handling

  • Ensure all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, balances with no shortages or overages

  • Accurately identify and capture goods on the POS system

  • Capture the correct payment methods received from customers

  • Maintain sufficient change at all times

  • Perform pick-ups accurately and within prescribed parameters

  • Complete cash-ups accurately at the end of each shift

  • Ensure all daily takings are deposited into the drop safe or vault

  • Process all transactions related to other stores, deliveries, and quotations correctly

Administration

  • Complete, sign, and file all cashier-related documentation accurately and timeously

Ready for Business

  • Adhere to all Ready for Business and Beyond My Control standards in line with the CB Way

Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service when processing customer purchases

  • Direct customers to the appropriate staff member for further assistance

  • Comply with the company dress code at all times

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards to protect customers and colleagues

  • Report any safety concerns or discrepancies to the Store Manager

Security Awareness

  • Adhere to system password controls at the till point

  • Ensure secure handling and transfer of cash to the Cash Office in line with company procedures
