Job Purpose
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in ensuring smooth store operations, driving sales, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role focuses on achieving financial and compliance targets, enhancing customer loyalty, and maintaining the brand’s competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Store Manager in achieving financial performance targets by driving sales through promotional activities, cross-selling, and up-selling initiatives
- Ensure efficient execution of all operational activities, including expense management, stock control, shrinkage prevention, housekeeping, and administrative tasks
- Oversee in-store visual merchandising to maintain presentation and promotional standards aligned with the brand image
- Motivate and guide staff to meet targets and performance goals, managing the team effectively in the Store Manager’s absence
- Assist in daily staff scheduling in accordance with labour policy to ensure departments are fully staffed
- Execute customer service initiatives that enhance the shopping experience, drive loyalty, and achieve ClubCard participation targets
- Ensure accurate completion and submission of administrative tasks, including weekly time and attendance and employee records
- Promote Clicks’ company values to position the brand as the customer’s first choice health and beauty retailer
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 with minimum 50% in Maths and English
- Relevant Retail or Business Management qualification (required for external applicants)
- Degree in Retail or Business Management is advantageous
- Minimum of 1 year experience in an Assistant Store Manager role within retail or FMCG, or completion of the Clicks Trainee Store Management Programme
- Experience in financial management, including budgets, profit and loss statements, and financial ratios
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding and application of financial management principles
- Retail/FMCG operations knowledge, including merchandising and promotions
- Knowledge of stock, cost, risk, and compliance management
- Customer service excellence principles
- Labour legislation and industrial relations practices
- People management and competency-based interviewing
- Strong numeracy, planning, problem-solving, and organisational skills
- Results and target-driven with a strong customer focus
- Effective communication and computer literacy
