Job Summary
As the Specialist: Risk Operations and Governance, you will support the Senior Manager in ensuring compliance with AFS policy requirements and assist in the compilation and submission of risk management reporting across multiple entities.

Job Description

Accountability: Risk Management/Governance Support

  • Evaluate, monitor, and advise on the adequacy of internal controls by conducting scheduled reviews based on risk frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Assist the Senior Manager with framework and policy reviews, embedment, and socialization.
  • Manage the Framework and Policy Project Plan.
  • Monitor progress on remediation activities and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Track adherence to policies and report identified risks, irregularities, or control issues.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and monitor key risk areas to ensure corrective action is taken.
  • Review operational processes and procedures to identify weaknesses and recommend solutions.
  • Improve risk and compliance processes by advising on enhancements.
  • Act as a backup representative in selected forums, communicating outcomes and actions.
  • Support the rollout of training initiatives.
  • Monitor Risk Events, document lessons learned, and track actions with business units.
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates to the Risk Management Information System.
  • Provide administrative support to the Senior Manager and business stakeholders.
  • Assist in setting up new ventures or acquisitions.
  • Track and update Dispensation, Waiver, and Breach (DWB) reports.
  • Serve as secretary to the AFS Insurance Committees and Forums (minutes, action items, agendas, terms of reference).

Accountability: Reports and Business Management Information

  • Coordinate risk reporting requirements as directed by the Senior Manager.
  • Assist in compiling agendas and presentations for monthly team alignment meetings.
  • Support planning for team engagements and events.
  • Assist with AFS Risk Operations tasks, including budgets, expense tracking, and team communications.
  • Support regulatory, management, board, and sub-committee reporting.
  • Identify and align reporting requirements across the AFS Group.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Legal, or Risk (NQF Level 7).
  • NQF Level 8 in Governance, Legal, or Risk Management, or a diploma/short course in governance is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of business experience.
  • 2-4 years of governance, company secretarial, or related experience.

Education
Higher Diplomas: Business, Commerce, and Management Studies.
