A leading commercial company is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Engineer with expertise in ammonia refrigeration plant engineering to join their team in Kariega. This is a key role for a Refrigeration Engineer to lead and oversee the refrigeration plant by maintaining equipment, ensuring operational safety, and managing the refrigeration department. Responsibilities:
- Maintain refrigeration equipment and peripherals to achieve >97% plant availability.
- Manage critical hardware stock levels.
- Develop, install, and optimize hardware to enhance reliability and performance.
- Schedule and execute planned maintenance on refrigeration systems.
- Update maintenance logs and provide weekly reports on completed, pending, and overdue tasks.
- Ensure plant operations maximize efficiency at all times.
- Enforce manufacturer service schedules to maintain warranty compliance.
- Continuously assess and update critical spare parts inventory, considering factors like lead time, cost, and downtime impact.
- Uphold statutory compliance and halt unsafe practices immediately.
- Ensure all mechanical work meets Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety Act standards.
- Implement internal safety protocols, including LOTTO (Lock Out Tag Out) and Health & Safety permit systems.
- Draft project scopes, define work specifications, and obtain supplier quotations.
- Coordinate with suppliers upon order confirmation.
- Mentor, train, and develop team members.
- Foster open communication through daily feedback sessions.
- Oversee Human Resource activities to maintain adequate staffing.
- Lead the team with guidance, supervision, and discipline as needed.
- Develop and manage the refrigeration department budget.
- Monitor expenditures to align with budgetary constraints.
- Optimize utility costs (water, effluent, electricity, waste disposal).
Requirements:
- Refrigeration/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Degree.
- At least 10 years of hands-on ammonia refrigeration plant engineering experience post-qualification.
- 5 years of experience managing a large-scale refrigeration plant in FMGC.
- Category C Ammonia Safe Handling certification (essential).
- Strong leadership, analytical, and project management skills.
- High computer proficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
