Job Summary
As a Consultant Branch Operations & Risk, you will embed the Branch Control Effectiveness framework by ensuring all standard controls are implemented and monitored daily. You will take full accountability for branch operations, supporting the Branch Manager in maintaining a robust risk and control environment.
Key Accountabilities
Branch Control Effectiveness
- Manage General Ledger accounts, investigate unauthorized entries, and oversee monthly reconciliation.
- Act as the independent control function for operational mandates, key/pin/access codes, and policy compliance.
- Coordinate operational risk and resilience activities, including OHS, Business Continuity, Security Incident Management, and Robbery Contingency Plans.
- Attest to key risk controls via OMS and other platforms.
- Conduct independent checks (cash counts, stock checks, etc.).
- Oversee branch awareness of critical communications, policies, and fraud prevention.
- Monitor Fraud and Operational Loss trends, propose corrective actions, and coach staff to close knowledge gaps.
- Ensure cash management and self-service device controls comply with policies.
- Evaluate and update training materials, ensuring staff complete compliance/product/regulatory training.
- Review Management/Exception Control Listings (high-risk transactions, fee waivers, etc.).
- Track and remediate Control Effectiveness Assessments (CEA) and Assurance findings.
Branch Operations
- Stay updated on software releases, socialize guides, and ensure system readiness.
- Maintain branch security measures, including DVR and physical security standards.
- Manage third-party vendor services, track service calls, and ensure SLA compliance.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives, validate payment/journal legality, and enforce segregation of duties.
- Support new staff onboarding on processes, systems, and compliance.
- Analyze and report branch risk profiles, escalating as needed.
- Maintain user profiles and access management in line with mandates.
Branch Support
- Coordinate system access, equipment allocation, and corporate wear logistics.
- Manage stationery supplies and infrastructure records.
- Act as backup to Branch Manager in smaller branches.
- Engage in meetings, trend analysis, and capacity planning.
- Serve as the branch SME on controls/operations, coaching colleagues as needed.
- Ensure branch readiness for system upgrades and escalate issues.
- Promote best practices across branches.
Education & Qualifications
- Higher Certificate in Banking or National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
