About the Role:
Our client, a leading player in South Africa’s financial services sector, is looking for a skilled Underwriting Consultant to join their dynamic team. This role involves assessing risk, making informed underwriting decisions, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and evaluate underwriting requirements from clinical sources.
- Summarize requirements and use internal/external guidelines to determine final coverage decisions.
- Underwrite new business policies, group risk policies, and servicing cases.
- Collaborate with Financial Advisors and Distribution Specialists on underwriting decisions.
- Address and resolve premium-related queries.
- Assess risk for life cover, serious illness cover, and disability cover.
- Ensure adherence to Risk Management guidelines, underwriting rules, and insurance laws.
- Determine policy terms, pricing, and acceptance aligned with business profitability.
- Manage and resolve stakeholder queries with timely follow-ups.
- Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
- 2-3 years of experience as a Life Insurance Medical Underwriter.
- Expertise in Individual Life Insurance products (Life Cover, Permanent Disability Cover, Temporary Income Cover, Critical Illness).
- Strong understanding of Insurance Industry administrative processes.
- Proficiency in business administration platforms.
- Knowledge of Compliance Processes and Procedures in Insurance.
- Experience underwriting temporary/permanent disability and critical illness with signing authority.
- Ability to decline excessive risks or adjust terms/premiums for high-risk cases.
- MS Office proficiency and strong PC literacy.
- Accurate typing skills.
