About the Role:
Our client, a leading player in South Africa’s financial services sector, is looking for a skilled Underwriting Consultant to join their dynamic team. This role involves assessing risk, making informed underwriting decisions, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and evaluate underwriting requirements from clinical sources.
  • Summarize requirements and use internal/external guidelines to determine final coverage decisions.
  • Underwrite new business policies, group risk policies, and servicing cases.
  • Collaborate with Financial Advisors and Distribution Specialists on underwriting decisions.
  • Address and resolve premium-related queries.
  • Assess risk for life cover, serious illness cover, and disability cover.
  • Ensure adherence to Risk Management guidelines, underwriting rules, and insurance laws.
  • Determine policy terms, pricing, and acceptance aligned with business profitability.
  • Manage and resolve stakeholder queries with timely follow-ups.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience as a Life Insurance Medical Underwriter.
  • Expertise in Individual Life Insurance products (Life Cover, Permanent Disability Cover, Temporary Income Cover, Critical Illness).
  • Strong understanding of Insurance Industry administrative processes.
  • Proficiency in business administration platforms.
  • Knowledge of Compliance Processes and Procedures in Insurance.
  • Experience underwriting temporary/permanent disability and critical illness with signing authority.
  • Ability to decline excessive risks or adjust terms/premiums for high-risk cases.
  • MS Office proficiency and strong PC literacy.
  • Accurate typing skills.
