Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking Trainee Managers for its Durban stores to build a strategic talent pool. The role is designed to prepare individuals with specific skills, qualifications, and attributes for future managerial opportunities within the company.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
1–2 years’ experience in retail management disciplines, including stock management, cash handling, reporting, expense control, and customer service
-
Computer literate – MS Office
-
Willing and able to work retail hours
-
Valid driver’s license
-
Own reliable transport
Advantageous
-
Diploma in Financial, Administration, or a relevant 3-year Diploma
Job Specification
Inventory Management
-
Process goods in transit, cycle counts, stock takes, and manage shrinkage
-
Maintain accurate stock levels and ensure efficient stock flow to the sales floor
-
Support ordering of FMCG, Health, and Beauty products to maintain correct stock levels
Sales Floor & Receiving
-
Assist with planning, implementing, and maintaining promotional stock displays
-
Ensure labeling, pricing, and layout standards are adhered to
-
Support goods receiving duties in line with standard operating procedures
-
Ensure transaction integrity for incoming goods receipts and outgoing returns
-
Assist with daily reconciliation of ZMove Packs
Sales Targets
-
Support achieving store sales targets across FMCG, Health, and Beauty
-
Collaborate with heads of departments to meet targets
-
Assist in executing promotions and coordinating with other stores for knowledge sharing
-
Monitor market trends and competitor activity
-
Support the development of strategies to increase market share, store traffic, and profitability
Point of Sale Operations & Finance
-
Assist with daily cash-ups and reconciliation of packs and paperwork
-
Support efficient scheduling and service at the point of sale
-
Monitor store expenses and stock adjustments
-
Support transaction integrity and ensure completeness and accuracy of branch transactions
-
Assist with improving cashier productivity and controlling overtime
-
Support audits and financial reporting as required
Customer Service
-
Assist in addressing customer complaints and compliments promptly
-
Ensure customer request systems are operational and actioned daily
-
Promote loyalty signups and manage accurate processing of points
-
Provide feedback to customers regarding queries and complaints
HR Process Support

Assist with people administration, including leave, scheduling, and staff file management
-
Support HR processes and documentation in compliance with procedures
-
Manage workforce system (KRONOS) transactions and data
-
Ensure employees receive necessary training and collate feedback
Trainee Programme Adherence

Participate in meetings, workshops, and learning opportunities
-
Assist managers with tasks for on-the-job learning
-
Complete required learning programs and assessments
-
Maintain a Portfolio of Evidence and ensure sign-off with Regional Admin Manager
