Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join their team at Cape Gate. The role involves providing pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medicine-related needs and ensuring compliance with all legal and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances

Support the compounding, manipulation, preparation, and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision

Repackage and manage stock of medicines from Schedule 1 to Schedule 5
-
Assist with ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 in line with legal requirements
-
Prepare and interpret prescriptions accurately, label and dispense medicines under the guidance of a pharmacist

Capture and verify patient and prescription details in the system

Ensure accurate picking, packing, and checking of medication, including dosage and drug interaction awareness

Provide patients with correct medicine usage instructions
-
Stay updated on medical aid procedures and claims requirements

Advise patients in dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop services
-
Follow up with patients for script tracking, appointments, and medication authorisations
-
Maintain accurate customer profiles and merge records as needed
-
Monitor stock levels, report discrepancies, receive dispensary stock, and facilitate bi-annual stock takes

Exercise stock, cash, and asset control in accordance with Dis-Chem SOPs
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
-
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
-
Experience with Unisolv
-
Computer literate – MS Office
-
Strong numerical skills
-
Proficient in English and a second language
-
Willing to work retail hours
Advantageous

Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
-
Third additional language
-
Experience with SAP and E-Scripting
-
Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine
