Duties and Responsibilities:

Content Strategy Development

  • Develop and execute a strategic content plan for the Department of Communication and Marketing (DCM), aligning with the university’s vision and goals.

High-Impact Writing and Editing

  • Produce speeches, articles, and digital content for the Vice-Chancellor and Principal’s stakeholder engagement.
  • Support the Executive Communication Strategy with high-level content, including speeches and social media material.
  • Write feature stories, opinion pieces, research breakthroughs, and digital content, collaborating with faculties and stakeholders.
  • Craft compelling narratives that reflect the university’s brand voice.
  • Contribute to the DCM’s Content Hub, ensuring timely multimedia content optimization.
  • Assist with institutional magazines (Bult and Dumela).
  • Conduct content reviews and refine language to align with evolving priorities.
  • Guide writing and editing best practices for consistency across communication channels.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Serve as a writer for university leadership, translating vision into impactful communication.
  • Work with departmental heads, academic leaders, and external partners to align content with UFS goals.
  • Foster strong cross-departmental relationships to enhance collaboration.

Project Management and Communication Campaigns

  • Oversee high-priority campaigns, ensuring timely delivery and strategic alignment.
  • Draft communication plans for integrated campaigns and projects.
  • Coordinate visual material production with the Reputation, Brand, and Marketing Management Unit.
  • Develop content calendars for major university initiatives.

Market Research and Benchmarking

  • Monitor industry best practices and higher education trends.
  • Research peer institutions’ communication strategies and adapt them for UFS objectives.
  • Analyse content performance metrics to refine strategies.

Inherent Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree/BTech/Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7).
  • Minimum three (3) years’ relevant experience in high-level content writing, speech writing, or executive communication in higher education or corporate sectors.

Recommendations:

  • Experience in higher education content writing, including speeches and opinion articles.
  • Familiarity with multimedia and digital content creation.
  • Basic project management skills.
  • Prior institutional/public relations experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Basic photography skills.
