Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a dedicated Security Guard to provide professional security services in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001, as amended. The role focuses on protecting Dis-Chem assets, property, staff, and customers by maintaining a safe and secure environment, identifying potential risks, and responding effectively to security incidents while adhering to legal requirements and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
-
Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
-
Grade C PSIRA accreditation
-
Minimum of 3 years’ general exposure within the retail environment, including shopping malls or warehouses
Advantageous
-
At least 1 year of previous experience in a similar security role
Key Responsibilities
-
Remain alert and vigilant to identify suspicious behaviour and respond in line with legal authority and Dis-Chem procedures
-
Conduct regular patrols of the premises to ensure visibility and reduce security risks
-
Control and monitor access points for vehicles and pedestrians, allowing entry only to authorised individuals
-
Investigate and report damage, theft, or unlawful entry to management promptly
-
Act as a visible deterrent to prevent theft, damage, injury, and criminal activity
-
Maintain a professional, courteous, and approachable manner when interacting with customers, visitors, and staff
-
Perform access control duties, including searches of staff, suppliers, and merchandisers
-
Accurately maintain registers, occurrence books, and security records
-
Cancel staff purchases and verify declared goods
-
Supervise refuse removal in accordance with company standards
-
Safeguard company property and assets against loss, theft, and malicious acts
-
Remain at the assigned post and ensure continuous security coverage
-
Deliver high standards of customer service to all internal and external stakeholders

Report any unusual or suspicious conduct by staff, customers, or suppliers
-
Support opening and closing procedures by ensuring doors, windows, and access points are secure
-
Conduct routine personnel frisking and vehicle searches
-
Monitor alarm systems, CCTV, and emergency detection equipment
-
Respond promptly and correctly to emergencies, incidents, or crisis situations
-
Liaise with law enforcement and emergency services when required and submit detailed incident reports
-
Assist with evacuation procedures and maintain order at assembly points
-
Provide ongoing security advice and safety guidance
-
Enforce rules and regulations to prevent security breaches

Record accurate notes of daily activities and unusual incidents

Perform additional security-related duties in line with company and industry procedures
Competencies
Essential
-
Strong knowledge of PSIRA regulations and security practices

Fire emergency response and health and safety awareness
-
Proficient in English with strong reading, writing, and speaking skills
Advantageous

Special Conditions of Employment
