Pick n Pay is looking for a Manager General Merchandise to oversee resources, ensure compliance with standards and regulations, and drive the achievement of sales targets and operational efficiency. This role requires strong leadership, merchandising expertise, and a customer-centric approach to ensure a high-performing and well-maintained department.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- 2–4 years of experience in a supervisory role

Key Responsibilities
Merchandise Management
- Maintain hygiene, housekeeping, and safe work standards
- Ensure adherence to merchandise and display standards
- Conduct regular quality checks on merchandise
- Verify pricing accuracy and stock levels
- Oversee the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals
- Identify potential workplace hazards
- Monitor competitor trends and customer preferences
- Build and maintain supplier relationships
- Analyze category performance for continuous improvement
Finance
- Track departmental gross margins and turnover, addressing deviations
- Conduct bi-annual stock takes
People Management & Development
- Evaluate staff performance against objectives and standards
- Provide guidance, training, and supervision for team members
- Assist with staff scheduling and operational needs
Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure all equipment is in proper working order
- Oversee adherence to equipment usage standards
- Assess faulty equipment before engaging contractors
- Maintain effective back-up systems
Shrinkage & Security
- Enforce security procedures and shrinkage control measures
- Monitor potential loss areas, including theft, fraud, and negligence
- Oversee store opening, closing, and alarm call-outs
- Ensure adherence to cash office procedures and security checks
Administration
- Complete and verify all administrative documentation
- Monitor accuracy of product listings and barcode discrepancies
- Ensure price changes are updated daily
- Analyze stock reports and oversee inventory management
- Confirm daily rosters and track deliveries
Customer Service Management
- Assist customers with store layout, product availability, and services
- Handle returns, exchanges, and product repairs
- Perform front-line customer service duties
- Address and resolve customer complaints effectively
Sales Promotions
- Plan and execute in-store sales promotions
- Monitor and evaluate promotional activities to maximize success
