Responsibilities
We are seeking an Engineer II to join our Bakeries Technical and Engineering team in Cape Town. The role is responsible for driving plant reliability, process improvement, and maintenance excellence. Key responsibilities include:
Asset Care
- Implement and manage the Asset Care Program, including PeMM audits and best practices.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans to optimise plant and equipment reliability.
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance managers on equipment upkeep, safety, and performance.
- Conduct regular audits and act as an engineering gatekeeper for maintenance schedules.
Performance and Breakdown Management
- Reduce unscheduled and scheduled downtime and improve TE/NE line performance.
- Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and implement solutions to recurring equipment failures.
- Support process optimisation initiatives, including waste, damages, and efficiency improvements.
- Drive reliability improvements in conjunction with plant engineering teams.
Projects (CAPEX & Process Optimisation)
- Support short- and long-term capital planning and execution.
- Implement equipment upgrades, modifications, and new technology to enhance quality, throughput, and productivity.
- Lead internal technical projects, including major shutdowns, machine installations, and maintenance enhancements.
Finance & Budget
- Assist with annual OPEX budget, monthly forecasts, and maintenance cost control.
- Optimise spares stockholding and utilisation.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety standards, Food Safety, and GMP requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, water, and energy consumption.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in productivity, maintenance, and engineering best practices.
Qualifications
- Relevant Engineering Degree or Diploma.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in manufacturing and/or supply chain; FMCG experience essential.
- Strong maintenance background with at least 5 years’ experience.
- Experience in bakeries, technical projects, major shutdowns, and machine installations advantageous.
- Proven knowledge of preventive maintenance principles and practices.
- Ability to travel nationally to PepsiCo sites.

- Hands-on approach on the factory floor.
- Vendor management experience and strong local OEM network.
- Financial acumen with maintenance budgeting experience.
- Computer literate with experience in SAP PM, Pragma, AutoCAD, and other engineering software.
- Deep knowledge of Health & Safety and Food Safety standards.
