Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing all maintenance and repair work on vehicles as per Value job cards, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, reliable, and serviced according to manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct visual inspections and on-board diagnostics during pre-diagnosis.
• Review workshop job cards for accuracy and understanding.
• Adhere to flat rates on repairs and ensure all parts used are recorded on job cards.
• Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours.
• Sign off job cards upon completion.
• Prepare operating equipment and bring necessary parts to the service bay.
• Perform maintenance and repairs according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
• Carry out visual inspections, calibrations, and adjustments.
• Identify deviations, irregularities, and unusual wear, reporting to the Workshop Foreman.
• Reset maintenance systems following internal procedures.
• Inspect dismantled parts and replace or recondition as required.
• Return old or unusable parts and document all work carried out.
• Evaluate vehicles against standard production configurations and assess technical condition.
• Perform final checks using testing and measuring equipment to ensure full completion of repairs.
• Maintain professional conduct at all times.
• Assist with operational functions as required.
• Follow company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintain daily housekeeping standards.
• Comply with Health and Safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Trade-tested commercial vehicle Diesel Technician

Skills Required

• Ability to apply appropriate techniques to maintain a professional work area.
• Ability to interpret customer usage patterns for maintenance needs.
• Understanding and application of business principles in own work area.
• Ability to interact with customers related to own functions/work area.
• Identify hazards and follow instructions to manage them safely.
• Apply basic Health and Safety procedures under supervision.
