This role supports the delivery of high-quality store builds and refurbishments across a large retail footprint, backed by strong brands and world-class systems.

Job Description
The Contracts Manager will lead retail construction and shopfitting projects, ensuring stores are delivered to company standards, on time and within budget. You will work closely with developers, contractors, and internal teams to manage new store builds, refurbishments, and maintenance projects, while supporting energy efficiency initiatives across the store network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage retail construction project programmes
  • Prepare, manage, and control project budgets
  • Ensure all stores are built and delivered to company standards and specifications
  • Liaise with developers and project teams to ensure compliance with agreed specifications
  • Survey proposed new sites and advise Properties on the scope of leasehold works required
  • Provide guidance and support to Divisions on major repairs and maintenance
  • Support the export of shopfitting elements to selected African countries
  • Collaborate with external energy consultants and internal store operations on energy efficiency initiatives
  • Prepare reports for the Board and relevant committees on energy conservation progress and outcomes

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager
  • Strong experience working with contractors and project stakeholders
  • Retail and shopfitting experience highly advantageous
  • Matric plus relevant qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years’ recent, relevant experience
  • Retail project management experience across Africa, including sourcing local contractors and materials
  • Working knowledge of exporting and shipping shopfitting beyond South Africa
  • Understanding of energy conservation options within retail environments

Competencies

  • Strong project planning, budgeting, and delivery capability
  • Commercially astute with strong contractor and stakeholder management skills
  • Practical understanding of cross-border logistics for shopfitting
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency practices within retail store environments
