Commercial Executive
Job Purpose
To drive competitive and sustainable growth for the Commercial division by leading category strategy, value retailing, and strategic supplier partnerships. The role focuses on growing market share, improving margins, and delivering business objectives through strong trading performance in a highly competitive retail environment.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute category strategies and operating plans aligned with Commercial and Group priorities.

Lead product assortment strategy, driving New and Only at Clicks to position the brand as a destination in health and beauty.

Implement space and range principles to deliver impactful in-store execution and seamless digital merchandising.

Drive the Value agenda through effective pricing, promotion strategies, and trade terms to achieve sales, margin, and customer objectives.

Define budgets and annual operating plans; monitor KPIs and implement data-led course corrections.

Build and manage strong supplier partnerships, negotiating trading terms, joint business plans, and service level agreements.

Collaborate with Supply Chain, Stores, OMNI, Finance, and Marketing to ensure end-to-end execution.

Build and lead high-performing teams through effective people management and development.

Streamline merchandise ways of working across divisions to improve speed, efficiency, and execution.
Functional Expertise

Proven category leadership experience in FMCG, health, and beauty retail.

Strong value retailing capability with sound commercial judgement.

Digital capability across e-commerce, retail media, and data-driven merchandising.

Solid understanding of South African FMCG markets, customer missions, and consumer trends.

End-to-end supply chain knowledge from sourcing to shelf availability and fulfilment.

Financial planning, budgeting, and full P&L ownership experience.

Strong supplier negotiation, co-op agreements, and joint business planning capability.

Retail management expertise, including market trends, competitor analysis, and relevant legislation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education: Relevant degree such as BCom (essential); MBA or postgraduate qualification (advantageous).
Experience: 5–8 years’ experience in a senior commercial role within retail or FMCG.
Track Record: Proven success in category growth, margin improvement, and supplier negotiations in competitive environments.
