Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking an experienced Cashier for the Greenhills Mall store (Empangeni – New Store). The Cashier will support customer service at the point of sale, ensuring a world-class shopping experience while accurately recording transactions on the Dis-Chem system. This role requires strict adherence to company policies, procedures, and cash handling standards to prevent errors and eliminate fraud risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver excellent customer service in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures
- Build professional relationships with customers and address queries regarding merchandise
- Report customer compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Maintain customer turnover targets and stay informed on current sales and promotions
- Ensure safety of colleagues and customers at all times
- Apply Dis-Chem 5-star communication principles
- Manage cash flow, including all transactions (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payments)
- Process loyalty cards, including accelerator partners (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, eBucks)
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved by a supervisor
- Handle merchandise exchanges and authorised returns
- Secure cash in drop safes according to SOPs
- Use personal codes and passwords safely and update regularly
- Scan and process all outgoing stock/items/scripts accurately
- Keep all money securely inside the till and handle daily takings confidentially
- Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management
- Adhere to store security policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Strong numerical skills and command of English
- Basic customer service knowledge
- Willingness to work retail hours

- Knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
