Casual Merchandiser

Dischem Vacancies is seeking Casual Merchandisers for their Brooklyn Mall Store. The role supports merchandising standards while providing excellent customer service and contributing to a seamless shopping experience.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Up to 6 months’ retail experience
• Computer literate (MS Office)
• Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous:

• Minimum 1 year retail experience

Key Responsibilities

Merchandising & Stock Management

• Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales and availability
• Store and organize delivered stock and stock pulled from the storeroom correctly and efficiently
• Check shelf stock for sell-by dates and ensure full product ranges are maintained
• Rotate stock regularly following FIFO principles
• Report low stock, out-of-stock items, damaged or expired stock to management
• Assist with stock counting, general stocktaking, and back shopping
• Adhere to Dis-Chem store layout, planograms, and merchandising standards
• Maintain neat, clearly labelled, and correctly priced product displays
• Flatten boxes and manage stockroom organization
• Assist with loading and off-loading stock and ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked
• Build, face up, stock, and maintain merchandising displays
• Keep store and merchandise displays clean and organized

Customer Service

• Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to all customers
• Follow up on out-of-stock queries and resolve customer stock issues promptly
• Establish professional relationships with customers and maintain high service standards

Compliance & Safety

• Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times
• Minimise losses by handling merchandise carefully
• Follow all Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs, and health and safety regulations

Competencies

• Strong command of English
• Presentable and professional
• Effective engagement with customers, colleagues, and management
• Trustworthy and honest
• Strong time management

Advantageous:

• Bilingual
• Knowledge of merchandising standards and FMCG industry
• Product and category knowledge
• Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking
• Alert to and able to report suspicious or inappropriate behavior

Special Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to work retail hours
• Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes while adhering to health and safety standards
• Reliable transport and/or reside near the store
• South African citizen
• Clear credit and criminal records
