Job Description
The Senior Accounts Receivable Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the credit risk, collections, and receivables functions to ensure optimal cash flow, controlled credit exposure, and full regulatory compliance. This role provides strategic direction, operational leadership, and expert guidance to support sustainable retailer relationships and sound financial performance.
Key Performance Areas
Credit Risk Management

Monitor and manage overall divisional credit risk exposure within approved limits

Lead comprehensive credit assessments for new and existing retailers, ensuring efficiency and accuracy

Manage and maintain the securities register for debtor accounts
-
Implement and uphold the Credit Committee Charter and Terms of Reference for retailer loan facilities
Collections and Receivables Management

Develop and implement effective collection strategies for overdue accounts
-
Negotiate and manage payment arrangements with retailers experiencing financial challenges
-
Engage and manage attorneys on legal and high-risk accounts
-
Oversee bond perfection processes and liquidation matters
-
Execute additional reasonable tasks as required by management
Compliance
-
Ensure full compliance with the FIC Act, National Credit Act, related regulations, and reporting requirements
-
Maintain a strong internal control environment across the receivables function
Reporting and Administration
-
Provide actionable insights and recommendations to support informed credit management decisions
-
Chair, attend, and administer weekly Credit Committee meetings and drive agreed outcomes and projects
-
Monitor and report on credit limits, overdue percentages, debtors’ days, economic indicators, and retailer payment trends
-
Implement robust reporting tools and functionality to enable effective credit oversight by key stakeholders, including guidance on dispute resolution
Relationship Management

Lead, mentor, and develop the accounts receivable team

Provide strategic and operational support to the Divisional Retail Operations Management Team
-
Build and manage strong relationships with retailers to ensure appropriate risk mitigation for high-risk accounts and retailer groups
Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
-
Relevant accounting qualification with a credit management certification
-
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior accounts receivable or credit management role
-
Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including FIC, Insolvency Law, Companies Act, and National Credit Act
-
Proficiency in SAP and other ERP systems
-
Strong commercial and business acumen
-
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
-
High attention to detail with strong organisational abilities
-
Proven people management and leadership skills
-
Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
-
Proven ability to build strategic, collaborative working relationships
