Pharmacist Assistant – Job Overview

The Pharmacist Assistant is responsible for delivering professional, confidential, and efficient pharmaceutical support services while ensuring high standards of patient care, accuracy, and compliance with all relevant procedures and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers professionally while maintaining strict confidentiality in line with SOPs and agreed turnaround times

  • Dispense prescriptions and manage all claiming and capturing procedures accurately

  • Ensure complete and accurate handling of patient profiles and records

  • Liaise with healthcare professionals when required to resolve queries or clarify prescriptions

  • Proactively manage problem-solving and follow up on prescription or customer-related queries

  • Communicate with customers via telephone or other channels regarding medication and healthcare services

  • Handle prescription-related queries efficiently and accurately

  • Manage and maintain patient profiles in line with regulatory and company standards

  • Assist with chronic medication authorisations in collaboration with the medical aid team

  • Liaise effectively with internal departments to support smooth dispensary operations

  • Execute ad hoc duties aligned with operational requirements

  • Deliver consistently high standards of customer service and patient care

  • Maintain efficient stock control and administration, including medicine repacking

  • Perform accurate compounding in accordance with approved procedures

  • Ensure effective dispensary administration and record keeping

  • Provide general health advice within the approved scope of practice

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and merchandise presentation in the dispensary

Knowledge Requirements

  • Sound product knowledge, including over-the-counter medicines

  • Knowledge of SAPC regulations and relevant legal requirements

  • Understanding of chronic authorisation processes and procedures

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Commitment to ethical working practices and compliance

Skills and Abilities

  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office

  • Strong service orientation with a patient-focused approach

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
