Our client, a leading force in South Africa’s financial services sector, is looking for a skilled Underwriting Consultant to join their team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess and process underwriting requirements received from clinical teams.
- Analyze and summarize requirements using internal and external guidelines to determine final cover decisions.
- Underwrite new business policies, group risk policies, and servicing cases.
- Communicate underwriting decisions to Financial Advisors and Distribution Specialists.
- Address and resolve premium-related queries.
- Evaluate risk for life cover, critical illness cover, and disability cover.
- Ensure compliance with Risk Management policies, underwriting rules, and insurance regulations.
- Determine policy acceptance, pricing, and terms aligned with business risk strategies for optimal loss ratios.
- Manage and resolve stakeholder queries, including necessary follow-ups.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients.
Minimum Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience as a life insurance medical underwriter.
- Proficiency in individual life products, including life cover, permanent disability cover, income protection, and critical illness.
- Strong understanding of insurance industry operations and administrative processes.
- Familiarity with business administration platforms.
- Knowledge of compliance processes in the insurance sector.
- Experience underwriting Temporary/permanent disability and critical illness with signing authority.
- Capability to decline high-risk cases or apply adjusted terms as needed.
- MS Office proficiency and strong computer literacy.
- Accurate typing skills.
