Actuarial Assistant Opportunity at Hire Resolve
Hire Resolve is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Actuarial Assistant to join our client’s team, specializing in non-life insurance reserving. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and actuarial modeling while collaborating with a high-performing team in a dynamic insurance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the calculation and validation of reserves in accordance with IFRS17 and SAM reporting requirements for quarterly and annual submissions.
- Provide actuarial insights for financial reporting and forecasting, ensuring accurate reserving metrics and timely deliverables.
- Contribute to financial planning processes by developing reserving projections and assumptions for regulatory and internal purposes.
- Collaborate with finance teams, auditors, and regulators to address reserving queries and support audit engagements.
- Assist in preparing and analyzing reserve reports, including submissions for regulatory returns (e.g., SAM QRTs and FSCA Conduct of Business Returns).
- Support data quality initiatives to enhance the accuracy of actuarial inputs and outputs.
- Participate in the improvement of actuarial models, tools, and reporting frameworks for better efficiency and insights.
Requirements
- Degree in Actuarial Science or a related quantitative field.
- Completed at least A1 and A2 Technical exams (ASSA) or equivalent progress with IFoA.
- 2-3 years of experience in non-life insurance, ideally in reserving, financial reporting, or technical actuarial roles.
- Strong grasp of reserving methodologies, actuarial modeling, and short-term insurance valuation principles.
- Familiarity with South African regulations (SAM) and IFRS17 standards.
- Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with SQL, Power BI, or ResQ is a plus.
