Actuarial Assistant Opportunity at Hire Resolve
Hire Resolve is seeking a driven and technically skilled Actuarial Assistant to join our client’s team, with a strong focus on reserving within the non-life insurance sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting financial reporting, regulatory submissions, planning processes, and data integrity initiatives. This position offers excellent exposure to core actuarial disciplines, regulatory frameworks, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic insurance environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the calculation and validation of reserves in alignment with IFRS17 and SAM reporting requirements on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Provide actuarial input into group financial reporting and forecasting, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of key reserving metrics.
- Contribute to the financial planning process with reserving-based projections and regulatory-compliant assumptions.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including finance teams, auditors, and regulatory bodies, to address reserving queries and support audits.
- Assist in preparing and analysing reserve reports while contributing to the development and submission of regulatory returns (e.g., SAM QRTs, FSCA Conduct of Business Returns).
- Maintain and improve data quality management processes related to actuarial inputs and outputs.
- Participate in enhancing actuarial models, tools, and reporting capabilities.
Requirements
- Degree in Actuarial Science or equivalent.
- Successful completion of at least A1 and A2 Technical exams from ASSA, or equivalent IFoA progression.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in non-life insurance, ideally in reserving or technical reporting.
- Strong understanding of reserving techniques, actuarial modelling, and short-term insurance valuation principles.
- Familiarity with South African regulatory standards (e.g., SAM) and IFRS17.
- Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel; working knowledge of SQL and Power BI is advantageous. Experience with ResQ or similar reserving software is a plus.
- High accountability and commitment to delivering quality work within deadlines.
