Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a filing system for documentation and communications, including online workflow management if applicable.
  • Handle communications for the Southern Journal for Contemporary History.
  • Receive submissions, respond to contributors, and assess eligibility for review (jointly with the Editor-in-Chief).
  • Coordinate the review process in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Assign tasks to Associate Editors.
  • Liaise with authors, printers, and administrative partners.
  • Manage editorial and publication processes.
  • Proofread and edit article manuscripts.
  • Maintain records for the Southern Journal for Contemporary History.
  • Oversee book reviews.

Inherent Requirements:

  • Relevant master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in the Humanities.

Recommendations:

  • PhD (NQF Level 10) in the Humanities.
  • Experience managing large-scale academic projects in history or related fields.
  • Familiarity with open-access publishing.
  • Fluency in English.

Salary:
R291,344.89 – R365,633.11 per annum (dependent on budget, experience, and qualifications).
