West Coast Personnel is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Underwriter / Claims Handler to join our dynamic team. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in the short-term insurance industry, with exposure to underwriting, claims processing, client service, and administrative support across both personal and commercial lines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with underwriting tasks such as data capturing and quote preparation.
- Support the claims department by gathering documents, following up on cases, and communicating with clients.
- Maintain and update client records and policy schedules accurately.
- Conduct basic risk assessments under supervision.
- Shadow brokers and client service consultants to learn about sales and renewal processes.
- Provide administrative support, including filing and email correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations in all interactions.
- Train and work with the company’s policy and claims CRM systems.
Job-Specific Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 (required).
- Minimum 1 year of short-term insurance experience in the industry.
- Diploma in Insurance, Business Administration, or Risk Management.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow in the insurance field.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Professional, customer-focused attitude with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and trustworthy.
