Job Description

Specialist Logistics Pgms Base Metals (Fixed Term Contract)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute the short-term monthly logistics schedule as set by the Manager Logistics, Sales Operations and Execution and Front Office to optimize sales and operations planning for value maximization while minimizing risks and adhering to capacity constraints.
  • Manage infrastructure requirements for PGMs Base Metals business and oversee operational performance and growth projects within logistics.
  • Maximize net revenue by ensuring cost-effective fulfillment of contractual delivery obligations with minimal capital employed, balancing internal supply and demand pressures.

Logistics Execution & Customer Service:

  • Ensure logistics commitments are delivered within cost and time constraints to meet vessel schedules and sales orders.
  • Accountable for logistics execution and tracking of Base Metal deliveries as per the Sales Tactical Plan (1-3 months).
  • Ensure compliance with Valterra Platinum governance processes for all logistics documentation, permits, and service provider interactions.
  • Collaborate with production teams to facilitate efficient movement of PGMs Base Metals.
  • Track daily production, dispatches, and shipping performance, providing data for invoicing.
  • Execute shipping and stock plans for export and local customers.
  • Prepare daily logistics tracking reports, month-end reports, and costing information for management.
  • Maintain product quality control throughout the logistics process.
  • Monitor and optimize inventory levels for base metals and intermediate products.
  • Expand distribution channels while ensuring transparent cost allocation (storage, import duties, insurance, etc.) for pricing.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for product packaging and movement.
  • Partner with Protection Services to mitigate theft and security risks during product movement.
  • Oversee operational performance of freight forwarding, road transport, shipping, and logistics service provider contracts.

Process & System Enhancements:

  • Improve shipping planning transparency across offices (Singapore, London, South Africa).
  • Ensure alignment between shipping plans and sales plans for all metals.
  • Optimize logistics service provider and storage location utilization.
  • Manage product form/grade availability and communicate effectively.
  • Optimize finished goods stock to balance risk and working capital efficiency.
  • Monitor operating costs to ensure cost-effective, risk-balanced deliveries.
  • Evaluate multiple logistics counterparties to minimize expenses (e.g., avoiding duplicate insurance payments).

Risk Mitigation:

  • Collaborate with Front Office, Sales Operations, and logistics providers to reduce risks in the logistics channel.
  • Ensure logistics activities comply with Valterra Platinum governance policies.

Reporting & Performance Management:

  • Provide daily logistics performance updates to the Manager Logistics, Sales Operations and Execution.
  • Track adherence to logistics plans and budgets.

Governance & Compliance:

  • Align logistics activities with Group Business Integrity and Governance policies.
  • Escalate contract compliance discrepancies and risks to line management.
  • Maintain accurate system records.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Support process reviews to identify value-maximizing opportunities.
  • Assist in implementing optimization projects for the Marketing BU.

Back-Up Responsibilities:

  • Provide backup support to the Logistics Specialist PGMs and Base Metals.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in science, commercial, engineering, or business.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines.
  • Logistics experience in the commodities industry, particularly containerized movements, break bulk, and freight forwarding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence outcomes.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work across global teams.
  • Financial and analytical proficiency.
  • Problem-solving mindset.
  • International container logistics experience (metals/minerals preferred).
  • Road and rail logistics expertise.
  • Experience in international commodity import/export.
  • Inventory management at production facilities.
