Duties & Responsibilities

IT Operations Management

  • Oversee IT operations across all Control Rooms and administrative sites.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
  • Standardize IT procedures and ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Coordinate with Group IT to align strategies and operations.

Infrastructure & Network Security

  • Manage and maintain networks, servers, and core IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure robust network security practices, including firewalls and endpoint protection.
  • Oversee infrastructure uptime, stability, and scalability.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely service delivery.
  • Conduct regular audits and disaster recovery simulations.

Support Services & Escalation Management

  • Oversee end-user IT support for Control Room personnel.
  • Handle Tier 3 support escalations for control centres.
  • Document support processes, incidents, and solutions.
  • Manage a dedicated Support Technician or contractor for first-level support.
  • Design and manage an on-call rotation for support.

Research, Innovation & Development

  • Identify emerging technologies to enhance Control Room capabilities.
  • Drive Proof-of-Concept (POC) initiatives from proposal to implementation.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on new tech deployments.
  • Lead technical rollouts across national sites, ensuring scalability and training.
  • Support business development with technology strategies.

Skills and Competencies

Technical Skills:

  • Solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking, network security protocols, server infrastructure, and cloud integrations.
  • Proficiency in endpoint security, VPNs, VLANs, and firewall administration.
  • Familiarity with Control Room technologies, CCTV integration, VMS platforms, and data center environments.
  • Hands-on experience managing Windows Server, Active Directory, remote monitoring tools, and Helpdesk ticketing systems.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and delegation abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to translate technical language to operational teams.
  • Analytical thinker with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Ability to manage stress and perform under pressure, with strong time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years in IT operations or infrastructure management, preferably in a 24/7 mission-critical environment (e.g., security, emergency services, financial control rooms).
  • Experience with network management, vendor oversight, and support structures.
