Workshop Manager
Purpose of the Job
The Workshop Manager is responsible for maximising service, sales, and profitability by driving productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction across all workshop operations.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Management
- Manage staff attendance, productivity, and efficiency
- Supervise, coach, and develop staff to maintain a customer-focused environment
- Ensure adherence to dress code and PPE requirements
- Identify training and development needs and conduct performance reviews
- Hold regular staff meetings and feedback sessions
Workshop Operations, Capacity Planning & Work in Progress (WIP)
- Conduct daily WIP planning and monitor workshop productivity
- Coordinate with Service Advisors and Parts department to ensure parts availability
- Ensure all vehicles are serviced according to OE schedules and requirements
- Optimise workshop operations and resource utilisation
Customer Service Levels
- Keep internal and external customers informed of vehicle progress
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally
Workshop Administration
- Ensure accurate data input in systems, including hour readings, job details, and fault codes
- Adhere to all administrative SOPs
- Maintain accurate costing and closing of job cards, including required documents
- Ensure quotations for outsourced jobs are requested, received, and processed on time
- Sign off job cards as per company requirements
- Ensure all recoveries are billed correctly to external customers
Reporting
- Pull daily WIP and purchase order reports, investigating discrepancies
- Submit all required reports to management on time
Asset Management
- Manage and maintain all company assets, reporting any losses or damage
- Follow SOPs for asset disposal
Recoveries and Warranty Claims
- Ensure correct processes for recoveries and warranty claims are followed
Financials/Budget
- Manage workshop operations cost-effectively within budget
- Report on profit and loss as required
Quality Standards
- Ensure workshops are equipped with the correct tools and equipment
- Conduct frequent checks to maintain service standards
Apprentice Programme
- Oversee the apprentice programme across all workshops nationally
General
- Maintain professional conduct and housekeeping standards
- Support operational functions as required
- Ensure Health and Safety standards are upheld
- Follow company dress code and SOPs
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- 3–5 years’ experience in workshop or field service management
- Diesel mechanic qualification advantageous
