General Assistant – Cashbuild Vacancies
Job Purpose
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering excellent customer service in the store while ensuring effective merchandising, accurate shelf price labelling, and high standards of housekeeping within the assigned area of responsibility.
Minimum Requirements
-
Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least one year of relevant work experience, or
-
Grade 12 with no related work experience

Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language

Valid South African ID or work permit
-
Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
-
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Ability to work efficiently under pressure
Key Performance Areas
Customer Service
-
Advise and assist customers with correct product selection and general enquiries
-
Assist in resolving customer complaints in a professional and timely manner
Merchandising Standards
-
Merchandise bulk stock safely in line with the approved store layout plan
-
Ensure the designated area is fully merchandised according to layout requirements and planograms
Housekeeping
-
Maintain a clean, safe, and obstacle-free work area at all times
-
Ensure stock is merchandised immediately after receipt
-
Allow customers safe access through aisles without risk of injury or inconvenience
-
Ensure correct shelf price labelling within the area of responsibility
-
Complete required housekeeping checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
-
Comply with OHSA requirements, including correct use of safety equipment
-
Ensure racking and bulk stock are merchandised safely for customers and colleagues
-
Report any safety risks or discrepancies to the Store Manager
Stock Loss Control

Identify and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager
