Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for conducting routine tyre maintenance, surveys, and breakdown support for the Value fleet of vehicles. This role involves driving to various sites, ensuring tyres are inspected, serviced, and replaced according to company standards, while maintaining safety, accuracy, and proper documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Tyre Stock Management

  • Ensure tyre stock is securely stored at all times.
  • Investigate and report stock discrepancies daily.
  • Assist with monthly cycle counts.

Tyre Surveys & Maintenance

  • Drive to assigned sites and prioritize vehicles based on the fleet list.
  • Conduct daily tyre surveys using Intersect Tyre Management software or manual records if offline.
  • Record tyre brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth accurately.
  • Maintain and correct tyre pressures monthly and survey spare wheels, reporting any missing spares.
  • Spray spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification.
  • Ensure all wheel nuts are torqued and indicators fitted.
  • Photograph scrap tyres and submit reports to supervisor.
  • Communicate daily progress, issues, and outstanding surveys to supervisor.

Tyre Branding

  • Report tyres missing brand numbers to supervisor.
  • Brand tyres according to the provided listing.

Tyre Replacement & Rotation

  • Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres as per SOP.
  • Complete tyre change slips accurately and submit daily.
  • Rotate tyres following tread-matching guidelines.

Breakdown Support

  • Ensure breakdown vehicle is loaded with correct tyres for emergencies.
  • Attend to tyre-related breakdowns promptly and safely.
  • Complete breakdown reports and submit all change slips to supervisor.
  • Return damaged tyres to depot and hand over to supervisor.

Company Equipment & Asset Management

  • Keep maintenance tablets and tools secure when not in use.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checklists and submit to supervisor.
  • Park and secure vehicles when not in use; hand over keys to supervisor.
  • Report vehicle damage or accidents immediately.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are functional and report defects.
  • Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists.

Housekeeping

  • Maintain clean and tidy work areas and company vehicles.

Health & Safety

  • Follow all safety rules, regulations, and correct use of PPE.
  • Report health and safety issues or near misses immediately.
  • Work safely with dangerous goods and heavy tyres.

General Responsibilities

  • Adhere to company procedures and policies, including SOPs, HR, POPIA, dress code, attendance, and smoking regulations.
  • Assist with other company requirements as needed.
  • Be available for weekend work if required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Code B driver’s license
  • 1–2 years heavy-duty tyre experience
  • Physically able to lift heavy objects
