Spray Painter – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Job
The Spray Painter is responsible for overseeing the workflow, quality standards, and safety practices within the spray-painting and flatting sections of the workshop. This role ensures that all repair and refinishing work is performed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards. The Spray Painter also supports staff through guidance and training while ensuring the correct use of tools, materials, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Job Card and Work Execution
- Review and interpret job cards, quotations, and work instructions to fully understand the tasks required
- Monitor the progress of repair and refinishing work to ensure tasks are completed correctly
- Ensure all work aligns with customer expectations and manufacturer standards
- Manage work completion within reasonable and agreed timelines
Quality Control and Compliance
- Confirm that the correct materials, processes, and procedures are used for each job
- Conduct regular inspections throughout the repair process to maintain high-quality workmanship
- Blend paint accurately and operate the paint mixing bank with precision
- Match and blend colours effectively to achieve seamless repair finishes
Equipment, Tools and Spray Booth Maintenance
- Operate and maintain the spray booth and related equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Clean and maintain all panel shop tools and equipment regularly
- Identify equipment faults and report issues promptly for repair or replacement
Housekeeping, Safety and Compliance
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment in line with company standards
- Follow and enforce health and safety regulations to maintain a hazard-free workplace
- Comply with company standard operating procedures, including safety gear and professional dress requirements
General Operational Support
- Provide support to broader workshop operations when required
- Maintain professional conduct and contribute positively to a productive work environment
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Trade Certificate in Spray Painting
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a panel shop environment performing spray painting duties
Skills Requirements
- Strong technical expertise in spray painting, colour matching, and panel repair
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure precise finishing, blending, and compliance with specifications
- Effective time management skills to manage job card timelines and workshop workload
- Problem-solving ability to identify defects, determine causes, and implement corrective actions
- Skilled operation and maintenance of spray booths, paint mixing systems, and panel shop equipment
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and other departments
