About the Role
The Senior Manager Sustainable Market Mechanisms drives Sasol’s global sustainability strategy, ensuring the development and implementation of credible market mechanisms and sustainability certification initiatives. This role provides strategic leadership on sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) issues, integrating key sustainability drivers into Sasol’s Group Strategy and business operations, while leveraging opportunities to create sustainable value and future-proof the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Sasol’s Sustainable Market Mechanisms strategy, covering carbon offsets, RECs, SAF certificates, emerging Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), and Sustainability Certification for feedstocks and products.
- Collaborate with Business Building, Finance, and Operations to procure, manage, and implement market mechanisms and sustainability certification projects aligned with climate management strategies, emissions reduction roadmaps, compliance requirements, and business growth objectives.
- Track and interpret policy developments and emerging best practices in market mechanisms and sustainability certification, including Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, VCM, EU RED, US IRA, CORSIA, RE100, GHG Protocol, SBTi, and carbon pricing schemes.
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure market mechanism, sustainability certification, and ESG strategies align with business building, operational, technology, social investment, shared value, and supplier development objectives.
- Establish strategic global partnerships with market mechanism, sustainability certification, and ESG entities to support implementation of Sasol’s strategies.
- Represent Sasol at industry forums, influencing policy development and shaping best practices in ESG and sustainability certification.
- Develop and maintain a Sustainability Accounting Framework to ensure credible use of market mechanisms and certified feedstocks/products against GHG inventories.
- Oversee the product carbon footprint (PCF) management system in collaboration with R&T, marketing, sales, and international chemicals teams.
- Embed sustainability practices into daily operations across departments, providing tools, resources, and training to foster a culture of sustainability.
- Lead integration of ESG drivers into Group Strategy, ensuring organizational readiness for emerging sustainability trends.
- Provide thought leadership on ESG issues, including circularity, plastics sustainability, cross-media impacts, and supply chain, developing integrated programs and KPIs linked to SDGs.
- Advise on external communication related to market mechanisms and sustainability certification, supporting reporting and messaging aligned with global standards.
Qualifications
- Relevant 3–4 year University Degree; Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in sustainability, ESG, and market mechanisms.
