About the Role
The Senior Manager is responsible for leading strategic HR operations, governance, compliance, and workforce initiatives to ensure alignment with organisational objectives, regulatory requirements, and best practices. This role acts as a key advisor to executive leadership while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across all HR functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day HR administration, policies, and systems to ensure consistent and efficient service delivery.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and governance frameworks aligned with legislation and company strategy.
- Monitor HR metrics, prepare management reports, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Lead digitisation and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and employee experience.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including Employment Equity and Skills Development.
- Lead end-to-end recruitment strategies aligned with workforce planning and organisational needs.
- Guide selection processes, interviewing practices, and appointment approvals.
- Build and maintain talent pipelines through partnerships with agencies, networks, and institutions.
- Provide expert guidance on labour relations, disciplinary processes, grievance handling, and conflict resolution.
- Support and oversee complex investigations, hearings, and consultations to ensure fairness and compliance.
- Strengthen line management capability in managing employee relations proactively and ethically.
- Maintain constructive relationships with employee representatives and unions.
- Oversee payroll operations to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
- Partner with Finance to manage statutory deductions, benefits administration, and reconciliations.
- Continuously improve payroll systems and align them with HR data management requirements.
- Resolve escalated payroll-related queries.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on people strategy, risks, and opportunities.
- Foster strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure alignment of HR initiatives with business objectives.
- Represent the organisation in industry forums and regulatory engagements where required.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team, promoting accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and employee well-being initiatives.
- Lead the development of HR dashboards and analytics to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Analyse workforce data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure data integrity within HR systems and drive reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential).
- BCom Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field (Essential).
- Postgraduate Honours Degree in HR or Business Leadership (Essential).
- Master’s Degree in HR or Business Leadership (Advantageous).
- 10–12 years’ experience in HR, including at least 5 years in a management role (Essential).
- Experience in HR systems, process automation, and data analytics (Essential).
- Experience managing a diverse HR team across multiple functions (Essential).
- Aviation experience (Advantageous).
- Strong knowledge of labour legislation and HR procedures, including BCEA, EEA, and related Codes of Good Practice.
- Sound understanding of employment law, Skills Development, and Employment Equity.
- Proficiency in HR Information Systems (preferably Sage People 300) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong expertise in HR technology and workforce analytics.
