Junior First Officer – FlySafair Careers

About the Role:
As a Junior First Officer, you will support the safe, efficient, and timely operation of FlySafair flights, assisting the Captain and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and the Operations Manual (OM). You will actively monitor the aircraft, perform all required checks, and contribute to excellent customer service while maintaining high standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight procedures, including aircraft inspections, system checks, and navigation.
  • Monitor flight path, aircraft systems, and performance, ensuring adherence to planned routes and safe terrain clearance.
  • Support the Captain in decision-making, operational duties, and crew management.
  • Identify potential safety threats and collaborate with the Captain and Operations to mitigate risks.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation and reports, including IQSMS submissions.
  • Perform and monitor normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists according to OM, FCOM, and FCTM standards.
  • Communicate effectively with ATC, internal departments, external service providers, and passengers.
  • Stay updated on SACAA, ICAO regulations, and company procedures, maintaining familiarity with the Operations Manual.
  • Uphold high standards of discipline, conduct, appearance, and professionalism at all times.
  • Take command in the event of Captain incapacitation.
  • Ensure compliance with all company procedures, safety protocols, and operational guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • SACAA Commercial Pilot License.
  • Class 1 SACAA Medical.
  • SACAA ATPL (preferred).
  • Type rating on Boeing (advantageous).
  • Minimum 1,000 total flying hours with either:
    • 500 Twin Turbine (P1/2) hours (<10,000kg), or
    • Boeing/Airbus Type Rated (including Level D sim time), or
    • 250 Jet/Turbine hours (>10,000kg).
  • Willingness to sign training bond(s).
  • No criminal record.
  • Own transport and valid RSA Driver’s License.
  • South African citizen with proof of identity and valid RSA passport.
  • Willingness to work irregular rostered hours.
  • Detailed knowledge of national aviation regulations (SACAA, ICAO) and Doc 8168.
  • Language proficiency Level 6.
