About the Role:
As a Direct Entry Captain, you will ensure the safe, secure, and efficient operation of FlySafair aircraft, fully complying with aviation regulations, company policies, SOPs, and the Operations Manual (OM). You will exercise full command authority, prioritising safety at all times, including the right to deny boarding or remove persons/cargo.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough pre-flight preparation, including aircraft inspections, weather analysis, route planning, and system checks.
- Pilot and navigate the aircraft through all phases of flight, managing normal and non-normal operations in coordination with ATC and crew.
- Maintain high technical proficiency and flying standards to ensure operational efficiency and passenger safety.
- Lead and support the flight crew, fostering teamwork, professionalism, discipline, and morale.
- Communicate effectively with ATC, ground staff, dispatch, and passengers to maintain smooth operations and customer confidence.
- Monitor aircraft performance, mass and balance, refuelling, and documentation to ensure compliance and airworthiness.
- Manage operational time pressures to achieve OnTime Performance (OTP) while prioritising safety.
- Represent FlySafair professionally at all times, maintaining high standards of conduct, appearance, and discipline.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- ATPL License.
- Minimum of 5,000 hours total time (TT) and either:
- 2,000 PIC >50T, or
- 1,000 PIC on a 737 or equivalent type (e.g., Airbus).
- Recent experience (within 24 months) as Pilot-in-Command on a large commercial airliner under Part 121.
- Fit to serve as Captain with no disqualifying medical conditions.
- Ability to work irregular hours.
- Willingness to sign an Upgrade Training Bond.
- Knowledge of Air Traffic Control airspace and procedures.
- Good understanding of South African CARS and CATS, Doc 8168, Safair OM, and Boeing SOPs (Normal & Non-Normal procedures).
