About the Role
The APC Optimization Team Lead oversees the Advanced Process Control (APC) team, responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of APC applications. This role drives optimization of unit processes, continuous improvement of existing APC applications, and expansion of the site’s APC capabilities. Additionally, the role manages the Alarm Management program to meet industry best practices in alarm performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the APC team to achieve all performance targets.
  • Develop and maintain best practices for APC and unit optimization.
  • Drive continuous improvement through multi-variable control and emerging technologies.
  • Implement long-term Alarm Management strategies aligned with ISA 18.2 standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all process safety management requirements.
  • Facilitate business improvements to reduce costs using APC methods.
  • Collaborate with global teams to identify solutions and enhancements.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and automation personnel.
  • Develop and execute training plans to enhance APC team expertise.
  • Evaluate team performance and foster individual development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of engineering experience.
  • 8+ years in process controls.
  • 5+ years in supervisory roles.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in chemical or refining processes.
  • Expertise with major DCS systems (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson) and PLCs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens).
  • Direct experience in APC strategy design and implementation.
  • Proficiency in process simulation tools like Aspen Plus or HYSYS.
  • Knowledge of control theories, including PID and model predictive control.
  • Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled in auditing and optimizing APC systems.
  • Experience training and mentoring in APC systems and strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
  • Adaptable and committed to continuous learning.
  • Ensures safety and compliance with industry standards.
