Casual Cashier

Dischem Vacancies is seeking a Casual Cashier to join their Chatsworth store. This role supports point-of-sale operations, delivering excellent customer service while accurately processing transactions according to company policies and standard operating procedures, with zero tolerance for inaccuracies or fraud.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales Support

• Provide professional and friendly service to customers
• Build and maintain positive customer relationships
• Report customer compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
• Stay informed on current sales, promotions, and customer turnover targets

Point of Sale Operations

• Accurately process all customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system
• Accept payments via cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other approved methods
• Process loyalty cards, including accelerator partner programs
• Ensure all line voids and price changes are authorized by a supervisor
• Handle exchanges and returns as authorized

Cash Handling & Security

• Manage cash flow and maintain till accuracy
• Secure cash in drop safes according to company SOPs
• Keep personal till codes and passwords safe and updated regularly
• Ensure all outgoing stock, items, and prescriptions are scanned and paid for
• Handle daily takings confidentially and in line with management guidelines
• Remain alert and report any suspicious behavior to management

Compliance & Risk Control

• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service, security, and operational procedures
• Ensure a safe environment for colleagues and customers

Minimum Requirements

Essential

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Minimum of 6 months’ cashier or till operation experience
• Computer literate, including MS Office
• Strong numerical skills and attention to accuracy
• Strong command of English (written and spoken)
• Basic customer service skills
• Willing and able to work retail hours

• Knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
• Ability to process sales, refunds, and multiple payment methods
