About the Role
This senior leadership role is accountable for the strategic oversight and performance of Kamo Placements’ distribution and portfolio management. You will lead the formulation and execution of integrated portfolio strategies, drive stakeholder-centric growth, manage profitability across agent portfolios, and spearhead the establishment of high-impact strategic partnerships (including Government Security Cluster, SAIA, FIA, and related entities). The role ensures alignment between business growth and sustainability imperatives while delivering operational excellence, client satisfaction, and public value.
Job Description
Strategic Portfolio Leadership
- Develop and implement a national portfolio management framework aligned with Kamo Placements’ growth strategy.
- Lead the segmentation, evaluation, and profitability monitoring of agent portfolios with a data-driven approach.
- Serve as the escalation and integration point for portfolio managers to ensure harmonised execution.
- Drive innovation in product and service delivery through agent and client performance insights.
Strategic Partnership and Stakeholder Relations
- Establish and manage key partnerships with Government Security Cluster, National Treasury-linked forums, and industry bodies like SAIA.
- Identify collaborative projects to strengthen market resilience, awareness, and disaster risk financing innovation.
- Represent Kamo Placements in forums to enhance strategic positioning in public-private platforms.
Financial and Business Oversight
- Own budgetary planning and monitoring processes for portfolio management.
- Analyse financial trends across portfolios and implement recovery plans for underperformance.
- Drive revenue growth strategies and track Gross Written Premium (GWP) performance per distribution partner.
- Ensure data quality and analytics for informed decision-making and stakeholder reporting.
Operational Excellence and Compliance
- Define and enforce operational standards, governance, and SLA frameworks for portfolio teams.
- Address audit findings and regulatory compliance proactively.
- Develop systems for performance tracking and cross-functional alignment (claims, underwriting, actuarial).
- Lead internal forums for integrated risk and compliance management in stakeholder engagements.
Customer Experience and Channel Development
- Ensure a client-centric portfolio model focusing on service reliability and stakeholder value.
- Support onboarding and operationalisation of alternative distribution channels.
- Lead due diligence for new partners with robust contractual frameworks.
- Drive market research and awareness campaigns targeting under-insured segments.
People Leadership and Capacity Development
- Provide strategic leadership to portfolio managers, defining performance goals and conducting quarterly reviews.
- Foster a high-performance, agile, and knowledge-sharing culture.
- Mentor team members for succession planning and cross-functional mobility.
- Promote collaborative stakeholder management within the organisation.
Ad Hoc Responsibilities
- Perform additional tasks as required by the line manager.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Law, Risk Management, or related field.
- AIISA or equivalent insurance qualification (advantageous).
- Postgraduate qualification in Insurance, Strategy, or Public Policy (preferred).
Experience
- 7–10 years in short-term insurance or financial services, with 5+ years in middle management.
- Proven experience in strategic partnerships and public sector engagements.
- Track record of managing diverse distribution channels and leading high-performing teams.
- Strong financial and operational oversight expertise.
