An established and reputable insurance company is seeking a skilled Commercial Underwriter to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in evaluating complex commercial risks, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards, and fostering broker relationships to enhance business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and underwrite new and existing commercial insurance policies within set authority limits.
- Implement binder agreements and oversee binder functions in line with regulations.
- Analyse risk profiles, claims history, and loss ratios to determine suitable terms, premiums, and coverage.
- Generate and deliver quotations, renewal terms, and alternative insurance solutions to brokers.
- Manage portfolios to maintain profitability and sustainable expansion.
- Cultivate strong broker relationships through efficient service and professional engagement.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
- Use Cardinal 360 for policy processing, administration, and portfolio tracking.
- Identify cross-selling and business development opportunities.
- Participate in enhancing underwriting processes and best practices.
Requirements:
- Regulatory Examination 5 (RE5) – Essential
- NQF Level 5 qualification in Short Term Insurance – Essential
- Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting experience, including:
- Handling complex risks and large accounts
- Binder management – Essential
- Proficiency in Cardinal 360 – Essential
- Strong technical expertise in commercial insurance products and policy terms.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.
- Proven track record in managing broker relationships.
