About the Program
Rand Water is seeking a skilled Electrician for their Panfontein operations site. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for all electrical work on site, including new installations, periodic maintenance, troubleshooting, fault finding, and repair of plant equipment.

Minimum Requirements

• Qualified Electrician with a recognized trade test (Red Seal)
• N3/Grade 12/NQF 4 Certificate in Electrical Engineering
• Desired: National N6 Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
• Minimum 3 years practical electrical maintenance experience
• At least 2 years’ experience reading and interpreting P&I and schematic drawings
• Experience with testing equipment (Multimeter, Megger, signal simulators, pressure calibration tools)
• Experience with transformers, high voltage/low voltage switchgear, and overhead lines
• Cable jointing and termination experience
• Proficiency with Maximo and SAP systems
• Wireman’s License (for issuing Certificates of Compliance – CoC) is an advantage
• SHEMTRAC/SAMTRAC certification
• Ability to pass ORHVS (Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems) certificate
• Courses/training in PLCs/SCADA, VSDs, and medium/low voltage equipment

Primary Duties

• Perform planned maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, and annually
• Investigate and repair breakdowns ensuring plant availability, reliability, and safety
• Perform standby duties, making critical decisions for electrical installations after hours
• Provide on-the-job training to new personnel, assistants, and apprentices
• Assist and manage contractors and head office staff for all relevant electrical work
• Monitor and analyze section performance using the Maintenance Planning System, participate in RCM and RCA processes
• Complete scheduled job cards, defect reports, timesheets, permits, and logbooks according to Rand Water procedures
• Conduct fault-finding on electrical circuits and locate faulty cables
• Perform general electrical work and maintain site housekeeping

Knowledge

• Electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of plant equipment
• Reading and interpreting P&I and schematic drawings
• Medium and low voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, and basic electronics
• Testing equipment operation (Multimeter, Megger, signal simulators, etc.)
• Maximo and SAP systems
• Compliance with SHEMTRAC/SAMTRAC and ORHVS regulations
