Job Description
Spar Vacancies is seeking a detail-oriented Category Controller to assist the Category Manager in managing product listings, stock levels, and supplier relationships. The role focuses on maintaining accurate system data, monitoring inventory, and supporting marketing initiatives to ensure smooth category operations and sales growth.
The Category Controller will oversee product data integrity, track stock performance, coordinate supplier deliveries, and assist in promotional activities. The role also includes preparing reports, managing administrative tasks, and supporting marketing events to enhance category performance and retailer engagement.
Key Performance Areas
• Assist the Category Manager in daily operations
• Ensure products are correctly listed on AS400 with accurate vendor pack details
• List new products and maintain system data integrity (pricing, quantities)
• Monitor out-of-stock items and slow-moving (dog-line) products daily
• Remove discontinued stock according to supplier information
• Coordinate with retailers to sell overstocked products and capture additional demand items
• Confirm supplier delivery bookings and follow proper stock return procedures
• Follow up on orders placed with suppliers and verify promotional quantities
• Ensure supplier invoices match system pricing
• Monitor stock levels, stock age, and manage return of unsold items
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly, and annual marketing reports
• Coordinate department meetings, including venue bookings and catering
• Support marketing communications to retailers and suppliers
• Assist at marketing events such as trade shows, golf days, public events, and roadshows
Minimum Requirements
• Matric certificate with Maths on Higher Grade (HG)
• Marketing or Purchasing Degree/Diploma
• High numeracy and administrative skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Previous creditors or SPAR Creditors system experience advantageous
• Experience in receiving and stock management is beneficial
