General Assistant

About the Role
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering comprehensive Customer service in-store, ensuring proper merchandising of stock, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining housekeeping standards within the designated area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Advise and assist Customers on product selection and queries.
  • Support in resolving Customer complaints efficiently and professionally.

Merchandising Standards

  • Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely according to the Store layout plan.
  • Maintain all areas of responsibility fully merchandised and compliant with planograms.

Housekeeping

  • Keep assigned areas free of obstacles and ensure stock is merchandised immediately upon receipt.
  • Ensure Customers can move safely through aisles without risk or inconvenience.
  • Maintain correct shelf price labelling within your area.
  • Complete daily checklists for canteen, toilet, and shower schedules as required.

Safety (OHSA) Compliance

  • Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of appropriate safety gear.
  • Ensure stock and racking within your area are safely merchandised for Customers and colleagues.
  • Report any safety or compliance discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Stock Loss Management

  • Identify and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with 1 year relevant work experience, or Grade 12 without experience.
  • Strong communication skills in English and the local dominant language.
  • Valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
