General Assistant
About the Role
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering comprehensive Customer service in-store, ensuring proper merchandising of stock, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining housekeeping standards within the designated area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Advise and assist Customers on product selection and queries.
- Support in resolving Customer complaints efficiently and professionally.
Merchandising Standards
- Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely according to the Store layout plan.
- Maintain all areas of responsibility fully merchandised and compliant with planograms.
Housekeeping
- Keep assigned areas free of obstacles and ensure stock is merchandised immediately upon receipt.
- Ensure Customers can move safely through aisles without risk or inconvenience.
- Maintain correct shelf price labelling within your area.
- Complete daily checklists for canteen, toilet, and shower schedules as required.
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
- Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of appropriate safety gear.
- Ensure stock and racking within your area are safely merchandised for Customers and colleagues.
- Report any safety or compliance discrepancies to the Store Manager.
Stock Loss Management
- Identify and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with 1 year relevant work experience, or Grade 12 without experience.
- Strong communication skills in English and the local dominant language.
- Valid South African ID or work permit.
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
