Job Description
The Cashier is responsible for the accurate processing of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation to ensure excellent customer satisfaction. The role ensures that no goods or stock leave the store without being correctly processed and paid for through the POS system.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or at least one year of relevant work experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
  • Strong numerical ability with accurate basic calculation skills
  • Well-developed administrative and record-keeping skills
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure

Key Performance Areas

Cash Handling

  • Ensure all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, balances with no shortages or overages
  • Accurately identify, scan, and capture goods on the POS terminal
  • Record the correct payment methods received from customers
  • Maintain sufficient change at all times
  • Perform pick-ups accurately and within prescribed limits
  • Complete accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift
  • Ensure all daily takings are securely deposited into the drop safe or vault
  • Correctly process transactions related to other stores’ funds, deliveries, and quotations

Administration

  • Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to cashier duties accurately and timeously

Ready for Business

  • Comply with Ready for Business and Beyond My Control standards in accordance with the Cashbuild Way

Customer Service

  • Deliver fast, friendly, and efficient service to all Cashbuild customers during checkout
  • Refer customers to the appropriate staff member for additional assistance
  • Adhere to the company dress code at all times

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards within the designated area of responsibility
  • Promote the safety of customers and staff
  • Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager

Security Awareness

  • Comply with system password controls at the till point
  • Ensure secure handling and transportation of cash to the cash office in line with company procedures
