Value Logistics is committed to keeping its fleet safe, roadworthy, and operationally efficient. The Tyre Maintenance Controller plays a vital role in ensuring fleet tyres are maintained to standard, breakdowns are attended to promptly, and safety requirements are met across all sites.
Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller travels to various sites to perform routine tyre maintenance, tyre surveys, and attend to tyre-related breakdowns for the Value fleet of vehicles, ensuring roadworthiness, safety, and compliance with operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Stock
- Ensure tyre stock is locked and secured at all times
- Assist with daily discrepancy investigations and reporting
- Support monthly cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
- Travel to required sites to conduct tyre inspections
- Prioritise tyre surveys and maintenance according to the fleet list provided by the Supervisor
- Conduct daily tyre surveys on the tyre management system, using manual documentation when systems are offline
- Capture accurate survey data, including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressures, and tread depth readings
- Ensure all vehicles and spare wheels are surveyed monthly and tyre pressures corrected
- Report missing spare wheels to the Supervisor
- Mark spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification
- Torque wheel nuts and fit wheel nut indicators where missing
- Photograph scrap tyres and submit to the Supervisor
- Provide daily feedback on vehicles surveyed, tyre issues identified, outstanding surveys, and productivity
Branding of Tyres
- Identify and report tyres without brand numbers
- Brand tyres in line with the provided listing
Tyre Replacement
- Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres in line with SOPs
- Complete tyre change slips accurately and timeously
- Submit tyre change slips daily to the Supervisor
Tyre Rotations
- Rotate tyres according to matched tread requirements
- Complete tyre change slips accurately and timeously
- Submit tyre change slips daily to the Supervisor
Breakdowns
- Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is stocked with the correct tyre sizes and quantities
- Attend tyre-related breakdowns promptly on site
- Manage breakdowns with urgency while complying with South African road regulations and driving rules
- Complete breakdown reports and tyre change slips for all tyres removed and fitted
- Return damaged or punctured tyres to the depot and hand over tyres and documentation to the Supervisor
Company Equipment & Assets
- Secure tyre maintenance tablets safely when not in use and at the end of each shift
- Complete daily vehicle checklists and submit to the Supervisor
- Ensure company vehicles are parked and locked when not in use
- Hand vehicle keys to the Supervisor for secure storage after each shift
- Report all vehicle accidents and damages immediately
- Ensure tools and equipment are serviceable and in good working order
- Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists and report defective tools
Housekeeping
- Keep the work area and company vehicles clean and tidy at all times
Health & Safety
- Comply with all health and safety rules and regulations
- Use the correct PPE at all times
- Report health and safety concerns and near misses immediately
General
- Adhere to company procedures and policies, including SOPs and training, HR policies, POPIA, dress code, smoking, and attendance
- Provide support with additional operational requirements as needed
- Availability for weekend work when required
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Code B driver’s license
- 1 to 2 years’ heavy-duty tyre experience
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
